Parks
Approximately 140 acres are set aside for recreation and open space in Onawa.
Three of our parks provide an outstanding array of brand new exciting playground equipment. Franklin Go-Getters 4-H Club and the High School Key Club raised the funds for this new, awesome playground equipment.

Gaukel Park -
located on north 12th street just south of the Aquatic Center and museum complex has a brand new, extensive playground development, inside and outside shelter facilities, sand volleyball, ball diamonds for softball and baseball, the soccer fields, walking path, restrooms, drinking fountain,
grills and picnic tables and horseshoe area. The Gaukel Shelter house can be rented any time of year and has air conditioning, heating, a small kitchen, tables, chairs, and separate restrooms for men and women.
 
Liberty Park -
located on 12th and 13th streets north, has an extensive playground development, drinking fountain, basketball courts, ball diamond, shelter, picnic tables, grills, and port-a-pots. The basketball courts in Liberty Park are brand new in July of 2001 and a recent donation from the Westendorf Family Foundation. The 4 courts are large and feature professional style adjustable bank boards.

Ropes Park -
located on south 3rd street and has new playground equipment, a covered shelter, drinking fountain, basketball court, grills, and picnic tables.
Washington Park -
located on north 4th street just south of Lark School. Washington Park has a practice ball diamond, large open grass play area, and the Lark playground equipment.
Aquatics Center
- offers
fun for kids of all ages. With
a water slide, lap lanes, baby pool, shade areas, and diving board, the
pool is a great place to cool off in the summer.
The pool offers swimming lessons, water aerobics, and adult swim
times. The pool is
available for rental for private parties.
Onawa Recreation and Community Center is your one stop information place for information regarding the shelter house, aquatic center, rec leagues, fitness center and parks.
Onawa Recreation Center located in the Onawa Community Center at the
Gaukel Park complex . A brand new facility with a fully equipped
exercise room, rec room with a pool table, ping-pong, other games and
